The Prophecies of Daniel: Part 7, The Ram, Goat and the Little Horn

Daniels Goat and Ram

During his long and productive life, Daniel interpreted at least two dreams, read the writing of warning on the wall at Belshazzar's final feast, and had five visions of future events. Daniel's five visions sprang from his desire to understand the prophecies about his people he learned from other prophets and the disturbing images he saw from his interpretation of Nebuchadnezzar's original dream. His first vision, recorded in chapter 7, clarified what he learned in his interpretation of Nebuchadnezzar's dream. The dream and visions all dealt with the kingdoms that followed Babylon and would have a great bearing on Daniel's homeland of Israel and its people who lived in exile in Mesopotamia. This article will examine his second vision found in Daniel chapter 8 which continues to focus in on three of these kingdoms. The ram, the goat, and the little horn.

Frequently Asked Questions

Steve from Pennsylvania asks: Many people say that Antiochus Epiphanes is the little horn and the desecrator from Daniel 88:11-13; 9:27; 11:31; and 12:11. How can this be when the Lord himself says that Daniel's prophecy wouldn't be fulfilled until after his death and resurrection?

"Understanding the Shadow War Between Israel and Iran"

Cyber Warfare

By Daniel Avis | Bloomberg, November 2, 2021

"Of the many conflicts in the Middle East, the one between Iran and Israel is the most potentially explosive. Iranian leaders periodically vow to annihilate Israel and are suspected of pursuing nuclear weapons that would back the threat. Israel, which is thought to have such arms, has committed to doing whatever it takes to prevent Iran from acquiring them. For years, the two have engaged in a shadow war, quietly attacking each other on land, by air and at sea, in some cases by proxy. They have mostly sought to avoid open clashes that would risk escalation to all-out war, preferring instead to act with plausible deniability. But lately, the clashes have become more conspicuous. An Iranian general said Israel was likely behind an Oct. 26 cyberattack that paralyzed gas stations nationwide."

The article goes on to answer these questions:

1. Why are Iran and Israel enemies?

2. What happened with the gas stations in Iran?

3. Where did the shadow war begin?

4. What's happened in Syria?

5. What's happened at sea?

6. Has the conflict reached inside the two countries?

7. Is all-out war a possibility?

"Planet X: a new member of the Solar System club?"

The existence of a new planetary body could explain the peculiar movements of celestial objects orbiting beyond Neptune

By EVA VILLAVER, SEP 17, 2021

From El Pais

"Paraphrasing Rutger Hauer's soliloquy at the end of Ridley Scott's 1982 sci-fi classic Blade Runner, we can say, and it would be true, that we have seen things you wouldn't believe: bodies of ice beyond Neptune's orbit, dwarf planets, objects that move with elongated orbits, orbital planets that display the same angle of inclination, perihelia that extend beyond the gravitational influence of Neptune… but all of this information will not be lost in time, like tears in rain. And now the time has come to figure out what exactly is happening with Planet 9, or Planet X.

From childhood we are made aware of and dedicate songs to the architecture of our wider home, the Solar System: a star surrounded by eight planets, the closest to the Sun, Mercury, and the furthest away, Neptune. The majority of the planets (with the exceptions of Uranus and Neptune) were known to science in antiquity and in that sense, we have made few advances since the invention of the telescope. Over the last few years, however, we have discovered a series of huge rocky objects beyond Neptune that we have grouped together under the name of trans-Neptunian objects, also known as the Kuiper belt in honor of astronomer Gerard Kuiper, who predicted its existence in 1951. The belt consists of thousands of icy bodies, the majority of which are smaller than Texas (if it was three-dimensional) and that are, literally, the debris from the formation of the Solar System. The Kuiper belt contains a couple of objects that are very famous: one is Pluto, the other is Arrokoth (which means sky or cloud in the Powhatan language), previously known as Ultima Thule, and the most distant object studied in space by a spacecraft to date when New Horizons made a flyby on January 1, 2019. . ."

Third Temple

The Third Temple

"In that day will I raise up the tabernacle of David that is fallen, and close up the breaches thereof; and I will raise up his ruins, and I will build it as in the days of old:" Amos 9:11

"Update on the Building of the Third Temple"

by Dr. Randall Price, March 01, 2017

From, The Jewish Voice

Third Temple

"Those who believe Scripture contains a literal fulfillment of the biblical covenants for the Jewish people and the Land of Israel recognize rebuilding the Temple is part of this promised future. In Jeremiah's presentation of the New Covenant for Israel, we read:

Behold, days are coming,' declares the LORD, 'when I will fulfill the good word which I have spoken concerning the house of Israel and the house of Judah. In those days and at that time I will cause a righteous Branch of David to spring forth; and He shall execute justice and righteousness on the earth. In those days Judah shall be saved, and Jerusalem shall dwell in safety; and this is the name by which she shall be called: the LORD is our righteousness.' For thus says the LORD, 'David shall never lack a man to sit on the throne of the house of Israel; and the Levitical priests shall never lack a man before Me to offer burnt offerings, to burn grain offerings, and to prepare sacrifices continually.- Jeremiah 33:14–18, NASB

This passage speaks about the Messianic Age when all Israel will be saved and restored to the Land of Israel. At that time, a righteous descendant of David, the Messiah, will sit on the throne in Jerusalem, and the Temple will again stand complete with its Levitical priesthood. If this is to be a future reality, is there any sign of preparation for a third Temple in Israel today?

Since 1987, when the Temple Movement began preparations for the rebuilding of the Third Temple, efforts to see this become a reality in the 21st century have been slowly progressing. While modern Israel and a large percentage of the Jewish people throughout the Diaspora are secular, Orthodox Jews do not believe these people will play a role in the rebuilding of the Temple since it is a spiritual work. It is Orthodox Jews who revived the Sanhedrin, the religious body that supervised the halachic (legal) issues related to the Temple and who intend to see it rebuilt in a proper way . . ."

"A book published nearly 25 years ago predicted America would hit a great crisis climaxing in 2020 — and that up next is a millennial vs. boomer standoff that will usher in a new world order"

By Nick Lichtenberg and Hillary Hoffower Jun 3, 2020, 12:32 PM

From Business Insider

Riots

A generational theory published in 1997 predicted a crisis-era that would climax around 2020. Alex Brandon/AP Photo

"America sees a "turning" every 20 years as one generation displaces another, and the dynamic between one particular generation entering "elderhood" and another entering "young adulthood" creates a crisis every 80 years, according to a theory prophesied in Neil Howe and William Strauss' "The Fourth Turning."

According to the authors' predictions, the fourth turning is now upon us.

The authors wrote that the next crisis-era would start around 2005 and "climax" around 2020, and would involve millennials and boomers fighting over the shape of the world to come.

There are some similarities between recent events and the book's predictions: The 2008 financial crisis can be seen as the catalyst they mentioned, and so far in 2020, social, political, and economic issues have peaked during the pandemic and protests.

It's unclear whether the fourth turning as Howe and Strauss characterized it really is happening right now — but the parallels are certainly eye-catching . . ."

"Biden's sweet talk won't curb Erdogan's abuses in Turkey and beyond"

Biden and Erdogan

President Biden with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan

By Aykan Erdemir, November 5, 2021

From New York Post

". . . US-Turkish relations remain a train wreck waiting to happen.

The questions journalists hurled at Biden as the two men headed into their meeting Sunday reflected the rising tensions: "Will you give F-16s to Turkey?" Then, twice each, "Will you raise human rights?" and "Is Turkey getting too close to Russia?,"

Days before, Ankara deployed more troops to northern Syria in preparation for another cross-border military operation targeting Washington's Syrian Kurdish-led partners in the fight against the Islamic State. When Turkey launched its 2019 incursion following President Donald Trump's hasty decision to withdraw troops from Syria after a phone call with Erdogan, Biden — then in campaign mode — assailed Trump for his weakness, accusing him of "demolishing the moral authority of the United States. . . Come, Follow Me,...Matthew 4:19

"What Does it Mean to be a Disciple of Christ?"

Follow Jesus

by Mel Walker, August 10, 2020.

From Christianity.com

"When Christ called His first disciples He simply said, "Follow Me."

These humble fishermen responded by leaving their careers, their possessions, and even their families to follow Him (Matthew 4:18-22).

A parallel passage in Luke 5:1-11 uses the phrase "they forsook all" as they began this new journey with Jesus. The word "forsake" literally means that they turned their back on their former lives. It implies a choice and a commitment.

This wasn't just a part-time project for them where they could change their minds in a few days and go back to their profession as fishermen. They left everything — and by doing so they were making a promise to complete the course and finish this new assignment.

By agreeing to follow Jesus they consented to be His students or His learners in the Jewish method of a Rabbinical school of discipleship. They recognized Him as a teacher and a leader, and they made this commitment to be His disciples.

What Does it Mean to 'Follow' Jesus?

It's interesting to note that the first directive that Jesus ever said to His disciple Peter, was "follow Me" (Matthew 4:19), and the last thing that Jesus said to Peter was also, "follow Me" (John 21:22) . . ."

"First In First Out: How the "use what you store, store what you use" model makes prepping easy"

Cans of Food

BY JOHN RAMEY

From The Prepared

"When you go to the store and have some wiggle room in your budget, just buy a little extra of the same shelf-stable stuff you already use. You then make a small change to how you store that stuff at home. That's it! In the end, you've leveled up your preparedness without actually spending extra money or time on 'prepping.'

The FIFO (first in, first out) model is a core concept in prepping and something everyone should understand. It's so simple and powerful that, for many people, it becomes such a normal part of their thinking that they aren't even aware of it anymore. Once you start, it seems silly to stock everyday essentials any other way.

The goal is to build up a natural surplus of extra stuff that you already use in normal life but can last at least a few months in storage — namely non-perishable food and daily consumables like toiletries or batteries.

Tip: This model works really well when combined with the supermarket food list and home medical supplies list.

Those extras are part of your first layer of emergency supplies. It's kind of like having a corner convenience store in your own home. Except it's only stocked with the stuff you know you want . . ."
